About the artist

Bio

Judy brings to her art over 25 years experience in mind/body work with Thomas Crum, giving workshops in centering, stress management and conflict resolution. She also is a fifth degree black belt in the art of aikido and a certified qi gong practitioner.

In the year 2000 she returned to her roots in fiber arts to express her passion for the integration of the mind and the body in daily living. A member of SAQA and the Genesee Valley Quilt Cub, she has studied with numerous quilt artists including Dena Crain, Jane Sassaman and Paula Nadelstern. She is an active participant in the SAQA Visioning Project.

Her quilting is characterized by bold shapes and delicate detailed stitching. Applique figures prominently in her favored techniques. She delights in creating both traditional functional quilts and art quilts. Her silk scarves have drawn praise across the U.S.

Judy presents her works in select shows. She combines her quilt art with her dedication to service by donating her work to many charitable groups.

Artist Statement

I have always been in awe of the power of nature to wordlessly invoke emotion and lift humans out of their egos into a state of true connectedness with others. Similarly, I have been fascinated with the ability of color and texture to both express and invoke emotion. In my art, I use the interplay of color, texture and design to achieve similar goals, as well as to make social statements and inspire centered states of being.
